Biographical history
Canadian author and educator. Born in Yorkshire, England, May 17, 1921. Educated in state elementary and secondary schools in England and University College, Durham University. Served in the British Army 1941-1946. Taught English in the Middle East, 1947-1949; Ghana, 1949-1955, Nairobi, Kenya, 1956-1968; and the University of Calgary, 1968-1988. Author of novels, short stories, critical works on Thomas Hardy and Charles Dickens as well as many articles, reviews and papers. Died in Calgary, Alberta, on November 27, 1998.
