Biographical history

George Coombe Lamb, 1895-1918, was born in Bloomsburg, Ontario and raised in Plumas, Manitoba. He joined the Canadian Bank of Commerce and worked as a bank clerk in Kamsack, Saskatchewan at the outset of the First World War. He joined the 188th Battalion in 1916 and served in France with the Motor Machine Gun Brigade. He was killed in action in March 1918. He was engaged to Cassie B. McKee of Edmonton, Alberta before entering the service.

Archival history

Lamb's effects were returned to his mother after his death. When she died in the 1930s they were given to his sister Mildred, a teacher in Manitoba. On her death about 1990 they passed to her grandson Mel Cameron of Calgary.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of First World War letters written by George to his parents and siblings, letters to George from his fiancee Cassie McKee, and a few letters to George from his family. Includes George's Attestation Paper, army paybook, certificate of death, and photos of George, Cassie and the Lamb family.
