Biographical history
George Joseph Benbow, 1906-1982, was born at Sintuluta, Saskatchewan. After the death of his father in 1913, the family moved to Calgary, Alberta. Benbow decided on a musical career but did various jobs in the 1920s and 1930s while studying for his degrees. He opened a studio in Calgary in the 1930s and taught piano lessons and composed music. He served in the military during the Second World War. In 1966 he married Margaret Hindle and they had one daughter, Melody.
