Biographical history
George Forbes Ritchie, 1890-1971, was born in Novar, Muskoka County, Ontario. He came to Calgary, Alberta with his parents in 1904. He entered the watchmaking trade working for D.E. Black. He became an authorized watch inspector for the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) in 1914, at which time he opened his own business as a watchmaker and jeweller at 1314 - 9th Avenue SE. He married Blanche Ritchie in 1914 and they had two children, Irene (Theaker) and J. Garnett. From 1914 to 1916 George studied optometry by correspondence. He then commenced practice as an optometrist while continuing the jewelry business. He retired in 1969.
