Biographical history

Frederick Davis Shaw, 1856-1926, was born in Kentville, Nova Scotia and took some dental training in Portland, Maine, USA. He arrived in southern Saskatchewan in 1879 and joined the North-West Mounted Police (NWMP) at Fort Walsh. He also served at Fort Macleod, Alberta and Regina, Saskatchewan before his discharge in 1884. He practiced dentistry around Fort Macleod for ten years and then became collector of customs at St. Mary (possibly near Carway, Alberta). He transferred to Cardston , Alberta in 1902 and in 1908 to Lethbridge, Alberta. He also operated a ranch near Cardston. He married Agnes Madeline Moran, 1862-1942, and they had one son, Percy Cowen Shaw, 1886-[after 1968]. Frederick's nephew, also named Frederick Davis Shaw, 1909-?, was a Social Credit Member of Parliament (MP) for Red Deer.
