Biographical history

Frederick Arthur Schultz, 1888?-1951, was born in Belleville, Ontario and moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1909. He was advertising manager of the News-Telegram and Albertan newspapers until 1918, but became an active investor in the oil and gas industry in 1913. He founded the Structure and Model oil companies and later owned of Alberta Oil Incomes Ltd. and Major Oil Investments Ltd., and had interests in other firms.

The fonds consists of photographs of oil wells Continental Leduc #4, Continental Leduc #9, Continental Leduc Woodbend #4, and Major Oil Investments #3. In many of the photos Schultz is shown posing with associates Carl Bell and George Harris. Includes two photos of a ceremony in which Schultz apparently was made an honorary First Nations chief by Clyton C. Cross (Chief High Eagle). The photos were mostly the work of Calgary professional photographer Harry Pollard.
