Biographical history
Fred Freeman Parkinson, 1892-1979, was born in Manitoba, attended Manitoba Agricultural College and worked for a time for the Agricultural Extension Service. In 1917 he married Harriette Evans and came to Edgerton, Alberta to manage a ranch. In the winter he returned to Manitoba or worked for other agencies. In 1929 he was appointed as an instructor at the Olds School of Agriculture. He was transferred to Edmonton in 1949 to the Field Crops Branch of the Department of Agriculture. Parkinson retired in 1957.
He was also an inventor, who worked on improving agricultural cultivation equipment. From 1959 to 1962 he collected artifacts for the Glenbow Foundation of Calgary.

The fonds consists of his autobiography; correspondence and reports regarding agricultural work (seed cleaning, stook sweeps, weeds, rural electrification); plans for a hog barn at Olds Agricultural College; research papers written for Glenbow Foundation re black settlers of Amber Valley and Wildwood, and about the Red River Valley; and photographs of agricultural inventions and operations.
