Biographical history
Frederick Murray Diehl, October 6, 1921 to November 15, 2008, was born in the Cypress Hills district of southern Manitoba. He had a long career as a writer, actor, announcer, producer, director and administrator in various provinces throughout Canada. In 1986, he was commissioned by The Devonian Foundation of Calgary, Alberta to produce a manuscript dealing with the life, activities and accomplishments of Eric L. Harvie. It was published as “A Gentleman from a Fading Age – Eric Lafferty Harvie” in 1989. He was also commissioned by The Devonian Foundation to document its history, operating philosophy, and projects it funded since its inception in 1973. This resulted in “The Family That Gave it All Back – Entrepreneurs in philanthropy…the Devonian Foundation” also in 1989. For both publications, Diehl interviewed members of the Harvie family, family business executives, law firm partners, neighbors, friends and other acquaintances.
