Biographical history
Fred J. Mellen, 1930s-?, was born in Alberta. In 1950 he joined the Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administration (PFRA) and later worked as an irrigation technologist for the Alberta Department of Agriculture. In 1970 he became the Town of Bow Island Economic Development Officer. He also served as the town's mayor from 1971 to 1974.

The fonds consists of Mellen's reports on the economic development of Bow Island (1979) and the County of Forty Mile (1971); newclippings about Mellen and Bow Island (1976-1980); and photographs of linear and lateral irrigation systems (1980).
