Biographical history

Frank Bedingfeld, ?-1921, came to a ranch near High River in 1884 accompanied by his widowed mother Agnes K. Bedingfeld. He raised cattle in partnership with "7U" Brown, and also specialized in Clydesdale horses. In 1910 he married Josephine Maitland, ?-1959, and they had a daughter, Josephine (Gardner), 1912-1993. In the First World War Frank served as an ambulance driver and on his return sold the ranch to Edward, Prince of Wales. The Bedingfelds went back to England but young Josephine returned to Alberta after the Second World War. For further information see "Agnes K. Bedingfeld : Pekisko Rancher" in Eye on the Future : Business People in Calgary and the Bow Valley, 1870-1900 / Henry C. Klassen. --Calgary : University of Calgary Press, 2002, p. 305-310.
