History
Phyllis Chapman, 1902-2003, was born in England and moved to Canada in 1912 with her parents. Her father was A.S. Chapman, City Engineer for the City of Calgary, Alberta, and her mother, Mme. Beatrice Chapman (nee Tregillus) was a piano teacher and organist at First Baptist Church. Phyllis studied organ, piano, music theory, and voice. From 1924 until after 1957 she was organist at Central United Church. She was also a professional music teacher and for a while was music critic for the Calgary Herald. She was married twice: to Harold Clarke, and to Chief Justice Clinton J. Ford. In the 1980s she was living in retirement in Honolulu, Hawaii. She had one daughter, Penelope K. (Sullivan).
