Administrative history
Federal Grain Ltd. was established in 1929 when nine private grain marketing companies amalgamated in order to better compete with the provincial Wheat Pools. On consolidation the company owned 340 country elevators and three terminals at Fort William. It also gained a controlling interest in Alberta Pacific Grain Company. In 1967 Federal Grain, Alberta Pacific and the Searle Grain Company amalgamated. In 1972 Federal Grain's 1092 elevators were taken over by the three prairie Wheat Pools.
