Biographical history
Ernest John Hoare, 1881-1961, was born in Kent, England and came to Canada in 1905. He moved to Bowness, Alberta in 1917 and worked at the Neilson Furniture Company in Calgary, Alberta from then until 1960. He and his wife, Barbara, had one son, Donald Bowness.

The fonds consists of Bowness land agreements between John Hextall and the City of Calgary; E. Hoare land agreement; photographs of Wood's Christian Home, Bowness streetcar, and Bowness Park; photographs of Calgary, Red Deer, and Sylvan Lake in Alberta; and photographs of Chemainus, Abbotsford and Prince Rupert in British Columbia.
