History
The foundation was established in 1980 by David Mitchell, the CEO of the Alberta Energy Company. Mitchel''s goal was to recognize and celebrate Canadian innovators of all ages and disciplines. Mitchell worked with former Alberta Premier Ernest C. Manning to establish a core of scientists and business people to form the trusteeship of the Foundation. In 1982 the E.C. Manning Awards Foundation celebrated its first annual award ceremony recognizing Dr. Phil Gold.
