Laurie Benjamin Elliot of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, was a civil engineer who worked for the Dominion Government in Calgary. He was involved in projects including the Craven Dam in Saskatchewan, the Langevin Bridge in Calgary, Canadian Pacific irrigation districts in southern Alberta, and St. Andrew's Locks in Manitoba. In 1910 he married Mary Elizabeth "Minnie" Howson, who was also from Nova Scotia.
