Biographical history

Egbert Oliver Taylor, 1886-1962, was born in Brentford, England. He worked with Portsmouth Borough Police for four years before moving to Canada in 1913. He joined the Royal North-West Mounted Police (RNWMP) in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1914. At the end of his term in 1918 he served with the Alberta Provincial Police (APP) for five months before rejoining the RNWMP in 1919. He was stationed in Alberta at Gleichen, Bassano, Calgary, Drumheller and Banff, and in Vancouver, Regina and Halifax before retiring on pension in 1945. He subsequently became a magistrate in Banff. He and his wife, Martha, 1886-1966, had five daughters, including Mary, Hilda, Delores and Alberta.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of diaries while stationed in Drumheller and Gleichen (1914-1916), and photographs of RNWMP and the Gleichen Stampede (ca. 1915-1920).
