Biographical history
Duncan McLean Marshall, 1872-1946, was born in Elderslie Township, Ontario and moved to Edmonton in 1905. He was manager of the Edmonton Daily Bulletin from 1905 to 1900 and subsequently the Olds Gazette. He also became a cattle breeder of shorthorn cattle at Olds, Alberta. He was the author of numerous books on Canadian agriculture and served in the Alberta Legislature from 1909 to 1921 as the Minister of Agriculture. He returned to Ontario in 1922, was Minister of Agriculture in Ontario, 1934 - 1937, and appointed to the Senate in 1938. He was married and had at least one son, Duncan, Jr.
