Down + Livesey Architects is a Calgary-based architectural and urban design firm established in 1995 by its two principals, David A. Down and Graham Livesey. From 1995 to 2004, Down + Livesey Architects was recognized for its expertise in residential developments, art gallery design, administration facilities, bottle recycling facilities, and urban design. Among the notable projects of Down + Livesey are the Uptown Bottle Depot (Calgary, 1997-1998), Bliss Residence (Bragg Creek, 1998-2001), Westmount Road Development (Calgary, 1999-2001), the Art Gallery of Calgary (Calgary, 2001-2003), Alberta College of Art & Design Expansion (Calgary, 2000-2002), Discovery House (Calgary, 1999-2004), Greystones Condominiums (Calgary, 2001-2002), Vulcan County Administration Building (Vulcan, 2001-2003), Grande Prairie Public Library/Prairie Art Gallery (with Teeple Architects, Grande Prairie, 2003-2004). The firm has been the recipient of a Masonry Design Award of Merit for the Uptown Bottle Depot in 1998 and a Prairie Design Award of Merit in 2000 for 2112 Westmount Road. The firm was dissolved in 2004.

Biographical history
David Down received his B.A. from the University of Victoria and his Master of Architecture from the University of Calgary in 1987. He is a Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, and an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Environmental Design at the University of Calgary. From 1990 to 1995, Down was senior project manager for Jenkins-Sturgess Architects on a number of projects, including Chuzenji Kanaya Hotel in Japan and Connaught Garden Townhouses in Calgary. From 1995 to 2004, David Down was principal at Down + Livesey Architects along with Graham Livesey. Down + Livesey Architects was recognized for its expertise in residential developments, art gallery design, administration facilities, bottle recycling facilities, and urban design. Since 2005 he joined the City of Calgary and is currently the Senior Architect and Chief Urban Designer with the City.

Biographical history
Graham Livesey was born in Vancouver, British Columbia. He initially enrolled in the Civil Engineering program at the University of New Brunswick (1978-1979) before transferring to the McGill University School of Architecture, receiving his Bachelor of Science Architecture in 1982. He also received his Bachelor of Architecture (1984) and Master of Architecture (1991) from the McGill University School of Architecture. Livesey completed his doctorate at the Faculty of Architecture, Technical University Delft, Deflt School of Design, The Netherlands (2013).
Livesey was appointed Assistant Professor, Architecture Program, Faculty of Environmental Design at the University of Calgary in 1991, Associate Professor (1997), and Professor (2012). He has also served as Director of the Architecture Program (2000-2006), and Associate Dean (Academic - Architecture) from 2009-2010, and from 2015 to present. He teaches in the areas of design, architectural history, and urban design theory, and conducts research in modern architecture and contemporary urbanism.
In his professional practice, Livesey worked in Montreal with Arcop Associates (1984-1987), Rick Mather Architects (1988-1990), and Eugenio Carelli, Architecte (Atelier Domino) (1990-1991). Livesey partnered as principal with David A. Down at Down + Livesey Architects in Calgary (1995-2004), was an associate at Special Snowflake Design (2007-2009), and now has his own practice of Graham Livesey, Designer (2004-present).
Livesey has written three books and numerous essays, was the Architectural Expert Advisor for The Canadian Encyclopedia (2003-2010), on the editorial board of the Journal of Architectural Education (2009-2013) and served as Interim Executive Editor (2012-2013). He is currently serving as Regional Correspondent, for Canadian Architect (2014-current).

Fonds consists of records documenting the Calgary-based firm Down + Livesey Architects during the years 1995 to 2004. Records include architectural drawings, preliminary sketches, correspondence, project journals, presentation books, photographs, presentation panels, articles, and digital records. The records document numerous Down + Livesey projects, including Bliss Residence/House in the Foothills (Bragg Creek, Alberta), Grande Prairie Public Library/Prairie Art Gallery (Grande Prairie, Alberta), Vulcan County Administration Building (Vulcan, Alberta), as well as numerous projects in Calgary such as Alberta College of Art & Design Expansion, Art Gallery of Calgary, Discovery House, Westmount Road Development, Uptown Bottle Depot, and many others..
