Biographical history

Donna Read is a Canadian filmmaker best known for her work with the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) and its feminist production unit, Studio D. Her focus has been on documentary filmmaking, particularly exploring feminist, historical, and spiritual themes. Her most notable works include the Women and Spirituality documentary series featuring three films: Goddess Remembered (1989), which explores the history of Goddess worship in ancient cultures and its relevance in contemporary feminist spirituality; The Burning Times (1990), which examines the European witch hunts of the 15th to 18th centuries, highlighting the persecution of women and the suppression of pre-Christian beliefs; and "Full Circle" (1993), which focuses on the modern revival of Goddess spirituality.
