Biographical history
Donald Southam Harvie, 1924-2001, was born in Calgary, Alberta. He received a BSc in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta and an MBA at Harvard University. After serving in the military from 1945 to 1947 he entered the petroleum industry, rising to vice-president of Petrofina Canada. When the company was purchased by Petro-Canada in 1981, Harvie remained as deputy chairman. He was later a director of the Bank of Montreal, Northern Telecom and Molson Canada. Harvie was a founding governor of Heritage Canada and Heritage Park in Calgary. He was also a governor of the Glenbow Museum and the Calgary Zoo. Donald Harvie received the Order of Canada in 1981 and an honorary doctorate from the University of Calgary in 1995. He and his wife Mary Soper, ?-2002 had four children, Pat, Ian, Mary Ann (Cormack), 1958-2012, and Janet (Jansen).
