        History

William Edward Deane-Freeman, 1888-1954, was born in Millarville, Alberta. In 1914 he married Annie Daisy "Nancy" Mends-Gibson, ?-1917, and they had three children, Clive, Desmond and Barbara. The family lived at Lineham and later at Millet. He married Mabel Strong Riggs, ?-1976, in 1921 and they had one daughter, Margaret (Graves), 1922-1973. In 1922 William bought the Monea Ranch near Millarville, which had at one time belonged to his father, Joseph. The ranch was sold in 1947 and the family moved to High River. The Deane-Freemans had played an important part in early sporting activities in Millarville, and William and Mabel continued this involvement. William was a notable polo player and captain of the High River Polo Team in about the 1920s or 1930s. He was warden at Christ Church, and Mabel was an organizer of the Ladies' Guild.
