Biographical history
H. David Matthews (1933-2019) was born in England and studied geography at University of Cambridge. He emigrated to Canada and worked as a landman in the Alberta petroleum industry for 35 years, in particular at Dome Petroleum in Calgary, Alberta. He was very active in the community and was involved in both campaigns for large urban parks in Calgary, including Fish Creek and Nose Hill. He was director of the Lakeview Community Association, Calgary Welsh Society, and the Calgary Tennis Club, helped pioneer the pathway system in Calgary, and helped found the Calgary Rams Rugby team. He was a life member of the Calgary Rowing Club, Calgary Horticultural Society, and the Alberta Trail Net Society. Matthews married Jean in 1965.
