Biographical history

Daniel Webster Trotter, 1860-1941, was born in Missouri, USA and educated in Kansas City and New York. He obtained an actuarial degree from Columbia University, and worked as a secretary for John D. Rockefeller. He came to Alberta in 1905 and purchased a 1600 acres farm near Shepard, which became noted as the Bullhurst Seed Farms. He specialized in seed oats and the breeding of Yorkshire pigs. He served on the executive of the South East Calgary Corporation Ltd., a land company developing a subdivision near his farm. In 1912, the company built the Gridiron Speedway, an auto-racing track, on his farm.

Scope and content

The fonds consists of Trotter's briefs and submissions on agricultural topics, extensive letter to Premier Aberhart about seed grain relief (1938), newsclippings and broadsides opposing the Social Credit government (1935-1940), some records of Bullhurst Seed Farms, and miscellaneous stock certificates. Includes financial and promotional records of the South East Calgary Corporation (1911-1913).
