Biographical history
Daniel Leonard McLeod, 1864-1943, was born in Nova Scotia and came west in 1898 to join the North-West Mounted Police (NWMP). Between 1915 and 1919 he participated in the Cuban War and then returned to Alberta to homestead near Bassano. After working as a ferryman on the Red Deer River for 12 years he retired to Calgary with his wife Edith. He had four stepchildren, Mrs. H. Beames, Edith (Hankel), Charles Smith, and George Smith.
