        Canadian author and educator Hallvard Dahlie was born in Norway, February 14, 1925, and emigrated to Canada in 1929. Received his elementary and secondary education in Alberta and British Columbia and served in Royal Canadian Navy in W.W. II. Pursued post-secondary education at University of British Columbia and University of Washington. Taught in British Columbia secondary schools (1951-1964) and at the University of Calgary (1967-1990), serving as head of the English Department from 1974-1979. Author of critical works on Brian Moore, Alice Munro and Frederick Philip Grove and co-editor of The Literary Half-Yearly, July 1972, The New Land as Literary Theme, 1978 and Ariel, October 1982.
