History
David Cunningham was born in Calgary, Alberta on September 15, 1952 to parents Glenn Elmer Cunningham and Henrietta Jesse Dunnet. He attended Parkdale, Balmoral and Crescent Heights High schools; was a member of the Boy Scouts; and was a server at St. Michael and All Angels Church. He attended the University of Calgary where he also did graduate studies in industrial design. While in his teens, he apprenticed as a European-style cabinet maker at Weismose Furniture. He later worked as supervisor of Exhibit Production at the Glenbow Museum; worked as a senior designer at the National Gallery of Canada; and since 1988 has been project manager at the University of British Columbia’s Museum of Anthropology. He has also worked as a consultant on exhibit design and facility planning for the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Hull, Quebec, the Chinese Cultural Centre and Holocaust Education Centre in Vancouver, the Vancouver Art Gallery and the Pakistan Pavilion at Expo '86.
