Administrative history
Crowsnest Pass, Alberta was settled around 1900 by labourers from the coal mines. Due to the concentrated population, only a few school districts were established in the area. Blairmore School District No. 628 was formed in 1901, Frank School District No. 629 in 1902, Lille School District No. 787 in 1903, Hillcrest School District No. 1096 in 1904, Bellevue School District No. 1336 in 1905, Coleman School District No. 1216 in 1905, Passburg School District No. 2300 in 1910, and Burmis School District No. 2564 in 1911. The Lille and Passburg schools closed in 1912 and 1944 respectively. The Burmis School District later became part of the Pincher Creek School Division. Talk of consolidating the school districts began in 1919 and continued until 1957 when the Crowsnest Consolidated School District No. 78 was formed, uniting all the districts except Coleman. The Coleman district opposed the idea of a unified administration until 1967 when it joined and the Crowsnest Pass School Division was formed. In 1994 CPSD became part of the newly-created Livingstone Range School Division.
