History
Wesley Crook, 1895-1982, was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He served overseas during First World War, then completed his engineering degree at the University of Manitoba. In 1920 he moved to Brooks, Alberta to work for the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) Department of Natural Resources, on the eastern section of its irrigation block. He married Alta Marie Wilson in 1922. Alta, 1902-1989, was born in Wisconsin, USA. When this irrigation section became the farmer-controlled Eastern Irrigation District in 1934, Wesley became chief engineer. He served in this capacity and later as assistant manager until he retired in 1963. The Crooks were active in many Brooks organizations, including the Brooks Hospital Board, Brooks Curling Club, Brooks Home and School Association, and Brooks Women's Civic Improvement League. Alta moved to Calgary after her husband's death.
