      History

      Florence M. Longdon, 1907-[after 1974], was born near Birmingham, England. She moved to Windsor, Ontario in 1927 and lived with an aunt. In 1928 she moved to High River, Alberta to be near Ted Coombes, who had travelled to Canada on the same ship. She worked on a local farm and Ted worked as a ranch hand on the EP Ranch. They were married in 1929, and settled in Claresholm. They had five children, Erle, 1930- , Edward "Teddy", 1932- , Jim, 1937- , Frederick James "Jesse", 1938- , and Rosemary, 1945- . In 1941 the family moved to a farm in the Graham district near Cremona. Florence and Ted ran a mixed farming operation until Ted's death in 1970.
