History
Ernest Stanley Clifford, 1873-1944, was born in Lahore, India. He trained as an engineer and served in the military for many years, first in South Africa with the Imperial Light Horse, Lumsden's Horse, West Australians and General Kitchener's staff. He received the Distinguished Service Order. In the First World War, Captain Clifford went out with the First Canadian Division, on Headquarters staff as Assistant Provost-Marshal. He was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel in June, 1918. Clifford received the OBE (Order of the British Empire) for his services. He later settled in Donalda, Alberta with his wife Mary Elizabeth.
