        Century Calgary was formed in the summer of 1972 to promote, organize and coordinate all the city's activities for the centennial celebrations of Calgary, Alberta in 1975. Tom Walsh was named general chairman and Rabbi Lewis Ginsburg executive director. Joseph Schmitz succeeded Ginsburg in 1974. Close to 4000 volunteers were involved in Century Calgary's various projects.

        Two of the most notable projects were the publication of an oral history project in which over 100 Calgarians were interviewed, and the six volume Century Calgary Historical Series : Books About Calgary / by Calgary authors. -- Calgary : Century Calgary Publications, 1975. The series covered topics including schools, churches, organized sports, youth groups, city communities, police force, transit system, private service groups, mayors, medical services, military, people, and events.
