History
Canadian architect. John Cawston was born in Calgary, Alberta in 1911. He graduated from the University of Alberta with a B.Sc. (Arch.) in 1935. In 1940 he married Marjorie Lorraine Nye and together they had two children. From 1941 to 1945 he served with the R.C.A.F. He did his architectural training with G.H. MacDonald (Edmonton) then became partner in the firm Stevenson Cawston Stevenson (Calgary, 1947-50). In 1952 he set up his own practice J.A. Cawston Associates and continued working until his death in 1967. He was a Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada. He also served as President of the Alberta Association of Architects.
