History
Canniff Printing was founded in Calgary, Alberta by Bertram E. Canniff, ?-1944, and A.G. O'Brien in 1911 as Canniff-O'Brien Printing. The partnership was dissolved in 1942; Bertram acquired Advance Printing and the name was changed to Canniff Printing Services. The company premises at 634A-17th Avenue SW were destroyed by fire in 1962 and a new building was acquired nearby on 6th Street. After Bertram's death, his widow, Marion, ?-1981, ran the firm until her retirement in 1964. Roland Soper became president and Roy Warhurst, secretary-treasurer. Warhurst left the company in 1971 and Stan Clayton became a partner. New facilities were acquired in 1972 at 508-3rd Avenue S.W. In 1974 the firm was reorganized with Ron Seatter as president, Norman Kraft as vice-president and general manager, and Stan Clayton as secretary-treasurer and marketing manager. The business was acquired by Phoenix Press in 1981.
