Fonds F0362 - Calgary Housewives Association

The Calgary Housewives Association in Calgary, Alberta grew out of a conference held in Banff in 1975, organized by Agnes Mitchell and Helen Keffer to provide housewives with a stimulating three day retreat away from the pressures of family life. By forming the organization the members sought to reinforce the role of the housewife by giving her an opportunity to discuss her goals and develop a sense of worth and dignity, plus a feeling of achievement. The association's program included regular meetings, special conferences, a yearly retreat, social events and a newsletter. The organization disbanded in 1987.
