Amy Ellen Comber, 1867-1946, was born in England, and married Richard Smith, ?-1902, in 1888 in Kent. She and Richard came to Mitford, Alberta in 1889 where they worked for Lady Adela Cochrane. They had three children, Violet Amy (Farley), 1890-?, Nora Alice (Prosser), 1895-?, and Albert Graham, 1899-?. The family moved to the Virginia Ranch, north of Cochrane, in 1898 and remained there until Richard's death. Amy and the children returned to England where she trained as a midwife, receiving a certificate from the Obstetrical Society of London in 1903. She then moved to Calgary in 1904, and married Charles Brown of Didsbury. The family farmed in the Westcott district west of Didsbury. Amy worked as a midwife in the Cochrane and Didsbury area until 1939.
