History
The town of Brule, Alberta was founded as a mining centre in 1912 by the MacKenzie and Mann interests who operated the Canadian National Railway. In 1920 the mine was bought by the Blue Diamond Coal Company for $450,000.00. The new owners expanded the mine and the town and output was boosted to 1800 tons per day. The number of men employed at the mine at its peak was approximately 600. Production declined by the mid 1920s and the mine closed in 1928. The town's population immediately fell from 2400 to 500. The closure can be attributed to the poorer quality of coal being consumed by the railways and industry.
