        History

        Eileen Birch, 1905-2001, was born in Calgary, Alberta and in 1924 joined the United Farmers of Alberta as a secretary to Henry Wise Wood. In 1933 she became secretary to the Board of Directors. She also lectured and broadcast to many audiences regarding farm topics. She retired in 1967. She volunteered with the Canadian Red Cross and the Calgary General Hospital Auxiliary and was an early member of the Youth Hostel movement. She was also a member of the Calgary Rifle Club and her team won the 1953 ladies international team rifle championship.
