Biographical history

William Allan "Billy" Taylor, ca. 1860s-1920s, was born near London, Ontario and at the age of fourteen began to work for his uncle, John Spencer, ?-1917, of Sun River, Montana, USA. In 1886 he brought a herd of cattle to the Milk River area of Alberta for winter feeding and returned to Montana the next year. In 1899 John Spencer and his brother, Sam, established a ranch on the Milk River, and Billy moved with them. In 1906 Sam returned to Montana, and a new company was established consisting of John, Billy and A.E. Philp of Brandon, Manitoba. In 1905 Billy married Anna Townsend, ?-1911, and they had two daughters, Marion (McDonald) and Anna Elizabeth "Beth". In 1917 the Spencer ranch was sold to J. Wallace and W. Ross, and Billy retired to Palo Alto, California.
