Biographical history
Alfred William "Bill" Farmilo, 1916-1996, was born in Edmonton, Alberta and received his education in geology at the University of Alberta and the University of Oklahoma. He began his professional career with California Standard [Chevron] and Richmond Exploration in Venezuela, 1943-1951, and later worked for Canadian Fina, Calvan Consolidated, and Western Leaseholds, 1951-1964; Supertest Petroleum and Magnorth Petroleum, 1964-1972; and Mikas Oil Company Ltd., 1972. He retired as vice-president of Brascan Ltd. and chairman of Westmin Resources in 1983. Farmilo was an honorary member of the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists, and a member of the Calgary Zoological Society, APEGGA, and the Lion's Club. He was also a founder of the Archaeological Society of Alberta, Calgary Branch. He married Grace Maxine McCollum, 1922-2010, in 1943 and they had three children, Alfred James, Carolyn Ann (Canny), and Mary Margaret (Jackson).
