Biographical history
Albert William "Bert" Haynes, 1921-2016, was born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. In 1933 he joined the 18th Scarboro Scout Troop (sponsored by the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans) and remained associated with scouting in Calgary for many decades. He was a draftsman at the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) shops in Calgary starting in 1941. He also served in the armed forces during the Second World War. For his service to scouting and his help in founding the Canadian Railroad Historical Association, Haynes was awarded the Order of Canada in 1980 and an Alberta Achievement Award.
