History
Edward W. Beard, 1888?-?, was the proprietor of Beard Electric Co. In 1942 he was living with his wife Florence and at their three children, Roland, Mary, and Edith, at 1946 – 12th Avenue W. in Calgary, Alberta. After Japan entered the Second World War, the possibility of air raids on western Canada became a concern, and the federal and city governments issued instructions and emergency procedures known as Air Raid Precautions (A.R.P.). Edward Beard volunteered to act as Air Raid Warden, with responsibility for maintaining order and safety in his immediate neighborhood in the event of an air raid.
