John Watson Bascom, widowed from his first wife, Rachel Lybbert in Utah, USA brought his five children, Raymond "Tommy", Melvin, Earl, Weldon and Alice to Raymond, Alberta in 1914. He farmed and ranched in the area, and married Ada Romeril Dawley. They had six children, Frank Dawley, Charles, Grant, Ada, Bell, Luella and Lamona. Tommy, Melvin, Earl, and Weldon were very active in rodeo throughout North America, particularly at the Calgary Stampede.
