        S. Alwyn Bartlett, was born in Toronto and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba after 1900 to work in an optometry laboratory. He moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1915 when he began his own practice as an optometrist. Bartlett was a member of Wesley United Church, several optometric associations, the Masons and the Calgary Lawn Bowling Club. He and his wife Winona (Ethel Florence?) had eight children, Pat (Wiber), Phyllis (Davis), Joyce (Walsh), Bernice (Beattie), George Arthur, 1917-2003, W.W. 'Bud', Harold, and Robert. George took over the optometry business and operated it until 1987. He married Dorothy Millicent Tosh, daughter of John Tosh, 1878-1961, and Margaret Tosh, 1885-1968.
