        History

        Edward Barnett, 1858-1939, was born in Almonte, Ontario. In 1877 he travelled to Fort Walsh, Saskatchewan and served a three year term with the North-West Mounted Police (NWMP) before moving to Lacombe, Alberta to homestead. Between 1881 and 1891 he operated a hotel. He later took up ranching at Stettler, near Buffalo Lake. In 1894 he married Elvie Margaret Green, a school teacher, and they had six children, William, Ralph Arnold, 1902-?, Agnes (Clark), Viola, 1900-1900, Cecil Victor, 1898-?, and Pearl (Griffin).
