        Robert Barnes, ?-1977, was born in Bismarck, North Dakota, USA and came to Banff, Alberta with his family in 1905. In 1911 the family homesteaded at Jumping Pound, in 1917 they moved to a dairy farm at Springbank, then to a wheat farm at Milo. In 1926 the family moved to Calgary and in 1930 Robert married Minnie, 1908-1999. In 1931 Robert and his brother Elliott opened an electrical store but two years later Robert and Minnie purchased a dairy farm at Springbank. From 1948 until 1967 the Barnes were houseparents of the Wildwood Youth Hostel.
