      History

      Thomas William "Billy" Bannister, 1866-1934, was born in Collingwood, Ontario and came to Calgary, Alberta about 1886. He took up ranching west of the city and until 1902 was manager of the Bow Valley Ranch for William Roper Hull. He moved to Calgary and was a cattle buyer for P. Burns and Company. He was a member of the Southern Alberta Pioneers' and Old Timers' Association. He and his wife, Anne Louisa Birney, 1889-1949, had nine children, Mary Ethel (Moore), 1902-1951, Madeline (Feary), Helen Maude Louise, 1900-2002, Eleanor (Tulk), Hazel (Barnes), Ruth (Morton), William Frederick George "Ted", 1904-1983, Allen Birney, 1913-1987, and Lillian Clara E. "Lily", 1908-1929.
