History
Norma Bannerman was born in Calgary, where she spent all her life. She received a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from the University of Alberta and earned the Dean's Gold Medal. In 1953, she married her husband Robert Bannerman. Norma was active in the corporate and volunteer circles, developing educational programs like Food Nutrition, Family Finance and Family Living at the Blue Flame Kitchen, SAIT, with the City of Calgary, Mount Royal College and Robin Hood Multifoods. She was also a prolific author of cookbooks: "Cooking with Cents", "The Children's Cottage CookieBook", and "Comfort Foods," among others. Norma served on the executives of both the Calgary and Alberta Home Economics Associations and contributed regularly to the Calgary Herald's Sunday Magazine. Both her and her husband were active members of the Scarboro United Church and travelled frequently to teach home economics skills with students in developing nations.
