Biographical history
Archie Smart, 1886-1957, was born in Bristol, England and moved to Alberta about 1914 where he worked as an engineer on the construction of irrigation works in the Eastern Irrigation District. He enlisted with the Engineers in 1915 and served overseas during the First World War, returning in 1919. He married Mabel Nicholls, ?-1938, in 1920. In 1922 he purchased an irrigation farm near Patricia, Alberta. The family remained there, operating a market garden, until 1928 when they moved to the Peace River area. Archie and Mabel had three children, Elizabeth "Betty" (Welter), 1921- , Barbara, and Charles, ?-1953.
