        Anne Burke was born in Calgary, Alberta. A freelance writer and poet, she founded the Prairie Journal of Canadian Literature. She was a founding member and first president of the Alberta Magazine Publishers Association, and served as president of the Writers Guild of Alberta and chair of the Feminist Caucus Committee of the League of Canadian Poets. After she moved to the Calgary subdivision of Ranchlands she became very involved with the community, serving as president of the Ranchlands Community Association, 1992-2001, as a director and executive member of the Federation of Calgary Communities, 1992-2001, and as a community representative on the Calgary Ward 2 Advisory Committee beginning in 1992. She was active politically as a member of the Calgary North West Progressive Conservative Association, and campaigned unsuccessfully in 2001 to become a Calgary alderman. One of her most enduring outside interests was the preservation, development and management of nearby Nose Hill Park. She served as chair of the Nose Hill Park Communities Board, 1992-2001, chair of the Nose Hill Park Management Advisory Committee, 1992-2001, and president of the Friends of Nose Hill Society beginning in 2002.
