Biographical history

Ann Skinner Thomson, 1909-1982, was born in Leven, Fifeshire, Scotland and came to Alberta with her family in 1914. Her father, David Thomson, was a coal miner. The family lived in Lovettville and Canmore and by 1922 lived in Edmonton. Ann was courted by Percy Venables in the late 1920s. He wrote her letters while working for the Burnt Mountain Lumber Company in Newcoal, Alberta. In 1937 she married Rasmus Christian "Ross" Rossander, who was originally from Denmark, and they had two sons, David and Robert. They moved to Calgary in 1938, where Ross worked for Burns and Company as an electrician.
